The challenge facing manufacturers today with manufacturing processes
In today’s technologically driven world, new products are being introduced more frequently and more rapidly than ever before.
New, technologically complex products often require custom manufacturing processes to deliver the specified product functionality, quality and reliability. However, there are few companies in the world able to provide such highly complex custom manufacturing services.
Customer case: Shimmer project
The Philips site in Drachten was faced with the challenge of how to weld two metal components of a shaving blade system together at an extremely high accuracy of 50 microns. Our Manufacturing Process Design service took up the challenge and designed and implemented a customized vision system to monitor and adjust the position of the individual parts and maintain their position during the laser welding process.
This solution was then automated and fully integrated into the production line. It’s an excellent example of the type of highly complex custom manufacturing processes that we excel in at Philips Engineering Solutions.

Our approach to manufacturing processes
When our manufacturing processes services are called upon, our process and automatization experts will work together with you to define, develop and realize the optimum manufacturing processes, tools and equipment to match your requirements. This could involve a one-off manufacturing process development or require continuous improvement in manufacturing.
All our experts have a minimum qualification to Green Belt level, whether they are a process development expert, a process improvement expert or a lean manufacturing consultant. And many have completed or are in the process of completing their journey to the Black Belts level. They are all extensively trained in applying the Design for Six Sigma methodology in the development of new processes, and on quality improvement in manufacturing, and they all have to pass the relevant exams and complete a qualification project before being certified.

At our state-of-the-art facilities, we carry out fast prototyping and learning in concept studies. We develop custom manufacturing processes during the product development phase by adhering closely to the V-model, in which execution of processes happens in a sequential manner in a V-shape. The V-model has its origins in software development and is now widely applied in other domains.
This enables us to get a clear view of your business, system, process, component and equipment requirements. It also involves setting up the verification plan, which displays how we will prove that we meet your requirements, and leads to the eventual validation.
Design for Six Sigma and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly are used in the development phase to optimize the product design for efficient, high-quality lean manufacturing solutions.
We deliver your manufacturing processes
What are your needs for concept and process development for manufacturing? Our Manufacturing Processes service includes prototyping, pilot manufacturing and state-of-the-art equipment.
