For this multiple criteria have to be taken into account. These criteria include the type, capacity and amount of lithium batteries, the mode of transport and the way the batteries are packed (standalone, contained in/packed with equipment). Articles or instruments (e.g. smoke detectors, special lamps) with a very limited amount of radioactive material can be transported as an excepted package. In practice this causes the necessary confusion because risks of the radioactive material are very low but still a number of Class 7 conditions must be met.

We author SDS that comply with the GHS building block approach and make sure your documents fulfill country-specific requirements. This is not just a nice to have, it is mandatory.
Even though GHS stands for Global Harmonized System, the harmonization between different countries in the world is still the greatest hurdle for companies. This is because nearly all countries that have implemented GHS labels, still have their own country-specific requirements with regards to the SDS document, the usage of chemical test data and the determination of the final classification.
Many countries have implemented different revision numbers of the GHS Purple Book including differences in implementing the various hazard classes. This difference in classification is also referred to as the GHS building block approach.
The HazCom team of Philips Engineering Solutions is able to determine the various GHS classifications for one and the same chemical product and can author SDS in up to 38 languages in the respective SDS template needed.

The CLP Regulation requires EU countries to appoint bodies responsible for receiving information on hazardous chemical products in order to provide appropriate preventive, curative and emergency response measures in case of poisoning. These so-called poison centers currently require each different national information submissions. The aim is to harmonize the process and ensure a uniform way of working and equal availability of the same information.
Two main elements have therefore been implemented in Art. 45 of CLP:
- A common EU format will gradually replace the current national information requirements and hence harmonized submitting information to poison centers.
- Unique formula identifier (UFI). The UFI code is a company-specific unique code that needs to be put on the label. Placing it in your SDS is voluntary. The UFI code resembles the linking pin between the product placed on the market and the information submitted to the poison centers.
Importers as manufacturers placing hazardous mixtures on the market will be responsible for the submission. Phased deadlines will affect uses for consumer products (2020), professional uses (2021) and industrial uses (2024).
